Gas Saving Tips

Paying attention to your tires, driving habits and car’s general condition makes good sense and can save you more than a few cents at the gas pump.

 Monitor Air Pressure
Keeping your tires properly inflated keeps you driving safely and improves gas mileage. Set the tires to the automaker's recommended tire pressure, not the "maximum inflation pressure" imprinted on the tire.

Clean Air Filter
Your engine needs a clear flow of air to operate effectively. Increase your vehicle's gas mileage up to 10% by replacing a clogged air filter.

Weight Watching
Traveling light isn’t always practical, but carrying extra weight in your vehicle on a regular basis can reduce gas mileage by 1- 2% for every 100 pounds. Another good reason to clean out the trunk or unload the back seat on a more regular basis!

Know Your Oil Grade
Your vehicle’s engine is designed for optimal performance based on a specific grade of motor oil. Use the appropriate grade (refer to your owner’s manual if you are not sure) and you can improve your gas mileage by up to 2%.

Stay in Tune
Regular vehicle maintenance keeps your engine humming right along and can improve your gas mileage by an average of 4.1%.

Cap it Up
It’s estimated that nearly 150 million gallons of gas evaporate every year from vehicles without gas caps. Even a loose cap allows gas fumes to escape, so remember to replace your gas cap tightly after filling up.

Ease Up, Ace!
Unless you’re on the racetrack, there’s really no need to gun the engine when accelerating from a stop. Not only can it be dangerous, but aggressive acceleration can decrease your gas mileage by as much as 33%.
